Convert a PDF bank statement to QBO (QuickBooks)

A .qbo file is a QuickBooks Web Connect file (OFX). Many banks only give you PDF statements for older months, so converting a PDF statement to QBO is how you import that history.

First: does your bank already export QBO?

Check before converting. Several big banks offer QBO for recent activity: Chase (desktop Spending Planner download) [Chase], U.S. Bank [U.S. Bank], PNC [PNC] and Wells Fargo Business Online [Wells Fargo]. Others don't, or no longer do: Navy Federal offers CSV and PDF only, and Bank of America's QFX/QBO downloads were reported discontinued in September 2025 (see their pages below).

Convert a PDF bank statement to QBO

  1. Download the statement PDF from online banking.
  2. Open StatementHaul and drop in the PDF. Conversion runs in your browser.
  3. Check that the result says Reconciled. Don't import a statement that doesn't tie out until you've looked at the flagged row.
  4. Download the .qbo file.
  5. QuickBooks Online: Banking › Upload transactions/Upload from file. [Intuit] Intuit notes that QFX/QBO/OFX files go in through Web Connect. [Intuit]

Why the balance check matters for QBO

QuickBooks will happily import a file that's missing a row. The import doesn't compare anything to your statement's closing balance. StatementHaul does that comparison before you download, so a dropped row or a flipped sign shows up as a difference to the cent instead of turning up later during reconciliation.

Limits: StatementHaul's QBO uses a generic bank ID, and QuickBooks Desktop may refuse it, in which case use CSV. Scanned/image PDFs aren't supported. The parser is generic and hasn't been tested on most real banks' current layouts. See the tested-on note on the home page.

Convert the PDF and check it to the cent

Drop a text-based statement PDF into StatementHaul. It's converted in your browser, never uploaded, and the opening + credits − debits = closing check runs on every statement. Your first 2 statements are free with no signup, then $9 one-time for 10 or $29 one-time for 100.
