Bank statement PDF to CSV, checked to the cent
How to turn a text-based bank statement PDF into a CSV you can open in Excel or Google Sheets, or upload to QuickBooks, with a check that no row was dropped.
Check your bank's own download first
Most banks export recent activity as CSV, but only for a window (for example 18 months at Wells Fargo for deposit accounts [Wells Fargo], 2 years of web history at Capital One [Capital One]). Older months exist only as PDF statements, and bank CSVs don't include the statement's opening and closing balances.
Steps
- Download the PDF statement. You should be able to select its text. If you can't, it's a scan and isn't supported.
- Drop it into StatementHaul.
- Confirm Reconciled, or review the highlighted row.
- Download the CSV. Columns: Date (YYYY-MM-DD), Description, Amount, Debit, Credit, Balance, Page.
CSV for QuickBooks Online
QuickBooks Online wants 3 columns (Date, Description, Amount) or 4 (Date, Description, Credit, Debit), with no zeros (leave blanks) and one consistent date format. [Intuit] Delete the Balance and Page columns, plus either Amount or Debit/Credit, before uploading.
The parser is generic: it reads standard text-based PDF statements by column position and isn't tested on most real banks' current layouts. The balance check is how you know a given file came out right.

Drop a text-based statement PDF into StatementHaul. It's converted in your browser, never uploaded, and the opening + credits − debits = closing check runs on every statement. Your first 2 statements are free with no signup, then $9 one-time for 10 or $29 one-time for 100.
