Ally Bank statement PDF to CSV or QBO

How to get Ally Bank statements out as PDFs, what Ally Bank already exports natively, and how to turn the PDF into a CSV or QuickBooks .qbo file that's checked against the statement's own balances.

Statement history online
18 months of account activity online; statements and tax forms available for 7 years after closing all accounts
Native CSV/QFX/QBO download
CSV or Quicken (QFX) from Transactions History. Ally's help page doesn't list QBO
Best use of a PDF converter
Ally gives CSV and QFX for 18 months but no QBO on its help page, and statements outlast the activity window. Converting older statement PDFs fills the gap, and StatementHaul's .qbo file is an option if your QuickBooks setup wants Web Connect.

What Ally Bank says

Convert a Ally Bank PDF statement to CSV or QBO

  1. Download the statement PDF from Ally Bank online banking (see above). Use the downloaded PDF, not a scan or a phone photo.
  2. Open StatementHaul and drop the PDF in. It's read in your browser with pdf.js.
  3. Look at the result: Reconciled means opening + credits − debits equals the printed closing balance. If it doesn't, the first row that breaks is highlighted.
  4. Download the CSV or the .qbo file.

Importing into QuickBooks

QuickBooks Online's CSV upload accepts a 3-column (Date, Description, Amount) or 4-column (Date, Description, Credit, Debit) layout. [Intuit] StatementHaul's CSV has more columns (Date, Description, Amount, Debit, Credit, Balance, Page), so delete the extra columns first or map them in the upload step. The .qbo file is OFX 1.02 Web Connect with a generic bank ID. QuickBooks Online imports it under Banking › Upload transactions. QuickBooks Desktop is stricter about bank IDs and may refuse it, in which case use CSV.

StatementHaul's parser is generic: it reads standard text-based PDF statements by column position. We have not tested it on Ally Bank statements specifically. As of October 2026 it has been tested on 11 public sample statements (a US bank, two US credit unions and open-source test sets) plus 4 synthetic ones. Scanned or image-only PDFs are not supported. The balance check tells you on screen whether the rows add up to the printed closing balance, and a statement that fails to parse isn't counted against your free statements.
